President orders the suspension of international flights in the Dominican Republic.

As a result of the Covid-19 outbreak, also known as Coronavirus, the President of the Republic, Danilo Medina, on March 14, 2020, ordered the suspension of all flights to and from Europe, China, Korea and Iran, effective Monday, March 16, 2020, until Wednesday, April 15, 2020, in order to prevent the spread of the virus within Dominican territory.

However, on Tuesday, March 17, as a result of the declaration of national, the President ordered the closure of all borders (land, air and sea), thus suspending the rest of international flights to and from the Dominican Republic, for the next fifteen days. This measure went into effect on Thursday, March 19, at 6 a.m.

Only the entry of ferry planes will be allowed in order to return foreign citizens located in the country, to their countries of origin. Requests for ferry flights can be processed before the Board of Civil Aviation and the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation, respectively.

Similarly, it was announced that only the entry of cargo and fuel planes and ships will be allowed to guarantee supplies to the Dominican population.

The State of Emergency was officially declared by Decree 134-20 and will remain in force for a period of 25 days with the possibility of being extented.
